How do we measure

buzz measurementBuzztrend makes use of proven Attentio technology (used in commercial environments). We continuously measure blogs and fora on politicians, political parties, policy makers and political topics.

Critics of such quantitative measurements say that finding that a particular politician has more exposure on MSN than another does not mean much. And we agree, this would be of limited value as information on its own.

In order to be able to draw conclusions and gain insights, Buzztrend builds innovative and complex models along several dimensions:
  • Entities: our analyses include several entities that can be measured, for comparison or as a benchmark
  • Time: measuring continuously over time allows the detection of trends and developments
  • Topics: a variety of different topics (broad and narrow) allows for detailed views and insights
  • Sources: we do not limit ourselves to a single source (however large it is); the combination of a variety of sources allows validation, verification and scrutiny of results
  • Place: with the ability to narrowly define the origins of the buzz, we gain insight in regional or national differences.
  • Combination and Comparison: our models include different combinations and comparisons, based on all dimensions (tailor made for each project) that allows Buzztrend to view the developments from a multitude of angles.

This multi dilensional aproach gives highly accurate and usefull results, on the developments and trends in the social networks, but also as a reflection of the situation 'on the ground', as our results from monitoring several elections  show and as our clients will confirm.

It doesn't stop here however, Buzztrend is committing itself to ongoing research to improve and extend its services. Issues as reliable sentiment analysis, semantic ontologies, analyses of the effects of social networking, authority and directionality are all being investigated and addressed.
